Baby, your Daddy has been in school for over TWENTY years, and today he got an email that said that all that school, all that work, all the studying, the prayers, and the tears have gotten him to his dream:
He's matched.
There is a job waiting for him.
He gets to be a doctor.
When I married him six and a half years ago, this day was just a daydream. He hadn't taken the MCAT or started his first (or second) round of applications. I don't think he had even let himself think of it as more than a hazy "maybe..." But here he is.
And while he worked, he did a lot of other amazing things. He served several callings in church, he looked after his siblings as they made big steps (dating, high school, college, marriages, a mission), he took great, tender care of our marriage and grew to be even more my best friend, and he proved himself the sweetest and happiest father. He loves his babies.
Sometimes during the four years of med school, people have asked him how he did it. How did he manage school with a wife and family? And we have no doubt people will be surprised that we've decided to add to our family just as he begins intern year. But the thing is, we did it because we wanted you. We wanted our babies, our family, and that is the most important thing in our little world. It is part of why he chose Emergency Medicine instead of surgery: he wants to be with us as much as he can. And he has worked really hard to get us (all five of us!) to this day.
You're going to love your daddy. He already loves you. :)
